Music Tuition

(Hull Music Service)

Kelvin Hall  provides instrumental and vocal tuition, in addition to the curriculum music lessons, delivered during school hours by the Hull Music Service. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to learn a musical instrument with a specialist teacher at the same time as improving memory skills, and fine motor skills, and encouraging responsibility, perseverance and discipline. Students can also take internationally recognised music exams, as well as participate in concerts and shows in school as part of their tuition. Learners may also access ensembles and activities at the Albemarle Music Centre. Most instruments may be loaned, free of charge, by the Music Service or school, when possible.

For the 2024/2025 academic year, we have unfortunately needed to increase fees from £50 to £60 per term. This adjustment, our first in many years, is necessary to align with the rising costs the school and the Hull Music Service face. The decision to change this rate was not taken lightly and we believe this is still very good value and highly competitive compared to private music tuition. As such, the new costing is the following: £180.00 per instrument, per academic year, for 30 lessons, spread over the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms (£60 per term). Payment due dates are shown below:

Payment Process

You will receive an invoice from the school detailing the above payment schedule.  Please make the payment using the school’s ParentPay system. If your child is currently taking lessons and is eligible for free school meals, please indicate this in the relevant section below. Lessons may be withdrawn if the student does not attend regularly and payment will still be due for the remainder of the term.

Due to the high demand for lessons, non-payment of fees may lead to the school withdrawing lessons, however, the school will always do its best to ensure no student is prevented from accessing these lessons due to individual financial circumstances.

Individual payment plans can be arranged with the school and you should contact the Finance Office to discuss this on 01482 342229.  If your child is eligible for free school meals they may be entitled to additional support.  Please ensure you have completed the FSM1 form available on the school website.

Registering Interest

Please complete and return the Google Music Letter Agreement as soon as possible, if your child wishes to start learning or continue their music lessons.  Parents will be invoiced for the three terms and payment for each term will be due per the payment schedule detailed above and on the Music Letter Agreement.
