BBC Radio 1’s Academy School Tour 2017

Pupils across Year 7 to 11 were given a phenomenal insight into the life of a singer/songwriter today as Calum Scott guest starred in the BBC Radio 1 Academy School Tour. Interviewed by CBBC presenter Katie Thistleton and BBC Radio 1 DJ Jordan North, Calum detailed his journey from his roots in the city of Hull to starring in Britain's Got Talent and landing his first Brit award nomination earlier this year!

The purpose of the BBC Radio 1 Academy school tour is to offer young people an insight into the career opportunities within the Media profession, from working as a producer or journalist, to aspiring towards a role in talent management or even as a future singer/songwriter in the UK charts.

Pupils asked a variety of incredibly intelligent and inspired questions which the BBC production team were thoroughly impressed with. From finding out Calum's own musical inspirations as a child (which included Whitney Houston and Ed Sheeran), to his greatest achievements so far within his own career, and his approach to songwriting, the audience left no stone unturned.

Before Calum performed 3 songs, he and his manager Luke Williams advised the pupils to never give up on their dreams, and through witnessing Hull's success first hand, this event will only go on to support our pupils' dreams of career success even more!

The BBC Radio 1 Academy tour will continue to visit schools in Hull throughout the rest of this week.
