Year 10 Hull Schools Rugby League Cup Semi Final Result:

Kelvin Hall 20 - Sirius Academy 18

Kelvin Hall Year 10 rugby league booked their place in the final of the Hull Schools Cup with a hard fought victory over Sirius Academy. It was a first ever win over Sirius in four years for Kelvin and one that was well deserved.

The game didn’t start well for Kelvin, Sirius scored a length of the field try to open the scoring in style, but credit must go to the Kelvin boys for the way they reacted, strong running from Mike Apollonios and Sam Salter paved the way for Reece Pettitt to use his speed and agility to beat several defenders and score near the posts and level the scores.

Sirius re-gained the lead minutes later but the 'little general' Connor Dickinson' threw a brilliant dummy pass that fooled the Sirius defence and gave him a massive hole to go through and score. Shortly after 'captain marvel' Connor Bower scored the try of the game with a clever chip over the top early in the tackle count, which he re-gathered himself and raced under the posts. He added the two point conversion to put Kelvin in front at half time 16-10.

At the start of the second half, both teams were on top in defence, with most plays been cancelled out. For Kelvin, Owen Taylor, Dean Cunliffe and Mike Apollonios tackled their hearts out. The game breaking try came from Connor Bower as he crashed over from close range to put Kelvin 10 points in front with 10 minutes to go. A late rally from the Sirius team made the final minutes very tense, but Kelvin held on and defended their try line heroically.

Kelvin will now play South Holderness in the final at Craven Park, the home of Hull Kingston Rovers, on Wednesday, June 13.
